MiR 001 Pet Peeve 1, Blini are not Pancakes

June 1, 2011

Part of the Pet Peeve Series where I examine some common mistakes made by Russian speakers of English. This episode is about the mistake of using the word pancakes when speaking about blini.

In each of the “Pet Peeve” series of podcasts, the title reflects the mistake that is common amongst Russian speakers of English, so if you are a Russian speaker of English and you don’t understand the reason for the title, then you should certainly take the time and watch the episode.

I don’t just report the mistake and mock it, I report it, mock it, then explain the reason for the mistake and how to correctly communicate the thought in English. I mean, mocking is actually pretty fun, but I guess that it’s also best if you learn from your mocking session.
